Breeder: Judy Johnston
We live on 160 acres in the beautiful Chimney Valley, a fifteen minute drive from Williams Lake. Chimney Creek runs through our property, and our dogs love a race across our hay field over our little bridge, up our trails, then a quick check on me, and off again! They share our home, our vehicles, and our hearts.
My first association with Standard Poodles was as a teenager when I had a summer job in a dog grooming salon.
I was totally taken with the beauty, brains, steadfastness and fluid movement of this wonderful breed. Add to that, the cleanliness, lack of "doggy odour", and the bonus of non-shedding.
My kennel name of "Khalsa" was Registered with the Canadian Kennel Club in 1985 and at that time I was the breeder of Bullmastiffs. I attained permanent registry status. I obtained my first Poodle in 1991, a loving bundle of black fluff who became my foundation bitch --- Champion Dawin Indigo Image of Khalsa - she graced our home for thirteen and a half years!
I have bred many champions and some breeders have started with my dogs. Through careful selection on breedings, health testing and importing, I feel that I have attained lines of Standard Poodles to be proud of and I have been rewarded with many phone calls, letters, cards and photos from happy Khalsa puppy owners. I do not support in any way the breeding of cross bred poodles or parti-colours.
Our puppies are born in our living room, with me in constant vigilance, (sometimes "all nighters"). They get accustomed to all household sounds, including our grandchildren. Our adults are not "disposable commodities", when they are no longer used for breeding, they are spayed, and continue the life that they are accustomed to, HERE! Our dogs not only have to be compatible with each other, but cats, bunnies, cavies, chickens, cattle (as we also ranch), and horses,(we raise purebred Arabian horses on a limited basis). We own a larger ranch an hour's drive from where our son and his young family live, our dogs go with us too----to check on cows out on the range. In other words, they have a life!
At this time I breed blacks, creams, whites, silvers and blues. Kind loving homes are important to me - good owners make good dogs! Please see our Puppies Page!

Our prices tend to be lower than some breeders because we try to make our puppies affordable for the average family. Keep in mind however, that maintenance of the Standard Poodle is higher than most breeds due to grooming/clipping costs.
On occasion, we will have older dogs to place, but these are dogs that have returned to us due to owners being unable to keep them, (this is our contract, we take our dogs back - we do our own rescues!). These cases are extremely rare. Deaths, divorces, and moving play a big factor in this. We want to be there for the dogs, as well as the owners. We are only a phone call away, and always available to answer questions or concerns.
